As I have mentioned previously in a post about keyword research, identifying the right keywords can make all the difference in terms of how much you can profit. While you can rank for just about any keyword if you do enough link building, it’s ultimately best to choose the ones that you can rank for rather quickly. This is where targeting buyer keywords comes in.

What Are Buyer Keywords?

Simply put, buyer keywords are the phrases that users type in when they are on the verge of or ready to buy a product. These phrases could include the title of a product, the model number, and any product with the word “buy” in front of it.

For example, let’s say a person types in the phrase “Makita LS1216L” into Google. This is the brand and model of a miter saw. Now, typically when someone is searching for a product title, they are either looking for a review or to buy the product. Either way, this person is either looking to buy, or is on the verge of buying. Either way, this is the type of targeted visitor that we want.

What’s also great about targeting buyer keywords is that there isn’t a lot of competition for them. This means that they are not hard to get first page rankings for.

The phrase “Makita LS1216L” has only 89,000 competing sites for this phrase and gets 720 searches per month from Google alone. There are virtually no other authority sites on page 1 for this phrase. You might be able to get on page one of Google for this term in 2 weeks or less.

All you have to do is write a review about the product and do some promotion. When people then search for “Makita LS1216L” they will come across your site. This is an extremely targeted visitor you are getting. They know exactly what they want. This increases your chances significantly of getting an affiliate sale.

I love to build websites, it’s one of the ways that I get to express my creativity. However, many people out there aren’t interested in building websites and would rather have someone else do it for them. They might be more interested in promotion, saving time, or focusing on other aspects of their business. Either way, buying websites is one of the best ways to accumulate virtual real estate without having to build sites yourself.

What’s great about buying websites is the fact that you can acquire ones that are already established, getting traffic, and possibly making money. In my experience, the hardest part about earning revenue with a website is getting it off the ground. Unless you are willing to pay for your traffic (and I’m not), then it’s going to take at least a couple weeks before you begin to earn revenue off of it.

There are many websites for sale that have been established for months. This means that the search engines know it’s there and are most likely visiting frequently. Also, if the owner has been promoting it consistently and also adding more content over time, then you have a site that is ready to start earning or may have already earned.

Of course, you will have to pay more if the site is making money, but I believe that it’s worth it. You will be saving yourself a lot of time. Also, a site that has made money has proven that it can be successful. You know that niche is capable of making money. When creating a site from scratch, you never know for sure what you are getting. With an established site that has earned revenue, you know what you are getting.

A domain name is similar to a piece of land that you own without the house. The house that you build on the property is the equivalent of the website. As they say in real estate: location, location, location. A house located in the right spot will sell at a much greater rate than one in a bad area, even if the house isn’t the best in terms of quality. The same can be said for a great domain name. Even if the website isn’t monetized or built as well as it could be, if it has a quality domain name then it can still be successful.

Criteria

What goes into a quality domain name? First, always choose a .com domain name. They have the most authority and will rank higher in the search engines. Next, if you can get a keyword phrase as your domain name, then do so. You will rank higher for that keyword phrase as a result. Even better if you can get a domain name that is also a product or service, such as indoor cycling bike used in the example earlier.

The next tip is to find a domain with three words or less. Always shoot for a keyword phrase first, but if you can’t find a good one available, go for something that is catchy and stands out. You could even throw your name in it if you want, such as “LarrysLawnmowers.com” or something along those lines. You want a domain name that will stick in people’s minds if possible.

If you find a great keyword phrase that is four words long, then go for it. However, four words is about as long as you want to go. You don’t want a domain that is really long, otherwise people will have a hard time remembering it. You want a phrase to at least be getting 500 words a month from Google, but preferably 1000. Use the <a href="https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal" <target="_new">Google Keyword Tool to help you with this process.

As mentioned, the lesser amount of words in your domain, the better. I was able to get a domain recently with only two words that was a keywords phrase. It was homeopathybook.com, and of course targets products which was even better. This domain will be easy for people to remember and will be viewed as an authority on the subject of homeopathy books, which will also likely increase the chances of making sales.

Getting a two word domain is really difficult for a keyword phrase, as almost all of these have already been taken. If you can get a keyword phrase two words long, grab it because they are rare and will be worth a lot more money.

So, when getting a domain name remember these key points:

Always choose a .com domain name

target a keyword phrase

Make sure the phrase is getting good searches each month (at least 500)

Try and get three words or less, no more than four

If you can’t get a good keyword phrase, go for something catchy

The less words, the better

A great tool to use to see which domains are available is domainsbot.com. When you type in a domain name, it will tell you instantly if it’s available. You can also do an advanced search that will provide suggestions as well.

Where should register domains at? I have registered all my domains at Go Daddy. A lot of people I know recommend Name Cheap, so I would say you could use them as well. Those are the two places I seem to hear about the most. I have never had an issues with Go Daddy whatsoever, and I will continue to get them from there.

In the first two parts of this series, I went over what I believe to be the best reasons why each person could benefit from having a business of some kind, whether small or large, part time or full time. Those reasons I believe can apply to anyone, regardless of who you are. The reasons I will be covering today are a bit more based on who you are as a person, so they may or may not apply to you. Of course, some people based on their personality type, interests, skills, and so on are more suited for being an entrepreneur than others.

If you have at least one of the following characteristics, then starting a business may be something to seriously consider.

Reason 5: Maximize Your Ambition

If you are the type that is very ambitious, being an employee can actually limit what you can really accomplish. As an employee, there is only so much you can do. Your drive may actually supersede the position you have.

For instance, I was an intern with a minor league pro basketball team in their front office. I often wanted to stay at the office later than my boss did to get more work done, but I couldn’t because once he left, the office closed for the day. My drive actually was too much for that position, I always wanted to do more than what they required.

Perhaps you have a position where you feel that you can do so much more than you are able to do. When you have a business, you can work as much as you want and use all that drive and energy you have. Furthermore, that drive will now be used to make you money, instead of the company you are working for. Employers love people who are ambitious and have a great work ethic, partly because all of their hard work is making management and the owner more money.

Imagine if all that drive and energy was actually going toward your business. How much more money could you be making?

Reason 6: Take Advantage of Your Skill Set

Maybe you are happy with your job full time, but also have a skill set that you have developed along the way that you aren’t able to use at your job. For instance, maybe you love working on cars and are really good at it, but you don’t currently work as a mechanic and don’t want to be one. You could possibly start a side business where you work on other people’s cars for them, instead of having to take them to a mechanic. This is just a simple example, but the idea is to think about anything you do well and offer a service using that skill set.

Maybe you are skilled at web design. You could go around to businesses and see if they need a website built for them. You could offer your services online as well, offer to create graphics for website owners, etc. I think you get the idea.

The point is, think about something you really enjoy doing and also have a skill set in. It could be virtually anything, and think about any potential problems in that area that could use a service or product of some kind. Simple ideas have turned people into millionaires almost overnight.

That concludes this series, I hope all of you enjoyed reading it and maybe got some ideas and learned a thing or two. Maybe you realized that starting a business might be for you, or reinforced the fact that you don’t want to start a business.

My goal in writing all this was simply to open everyone’s minds to this possibility. I see so many people who hate their job and could really excel doing something on their own, but are afraid to do so or don’t even think about the possibility. You only live once, so make the most of your talents and make sure the world gets to see them. If something is in your heart, don’t ignore it. Otherwise, you might always wonder ‘what if’ as your life comes to an end.

I have to think that I am not alone on this. Read more...

In Why You Should Start a Business: Part 1, I outlined two reasons for starting a business: freedom and controlling your destiny. These two reasons are what’s most important to me. I place tremendous value on freedom, being able to use my time as I wish. I decide when to wake up, when to work, and when to stop working. I decide what I do each day. Time is all we have, and having the freedom to use it the way I choose is important to me. I have to think that I am not alone on this.

Having a business also means that success is completely up to you. It is not determined by whether your boss likes you or not, or by who you know. You could do the best job and work as hard as you can for your boss, yet he or she may not appreciate it or give you the promotion. When you work for yourself, you reap all the benefits, not your employer.

Now, what other reasons are there for starting a business? In my short time as an entrepreneur, I have learned a great deal about myself. Knowing who you are is critical to having success and happiness in life. This is my next reason for starting a business.

Reason 3: Learning Who You Are

Even as an employee, you can still learn a lot about yourself. Regardless of who you work for or what industry you are in, your character will be tested along the way. You will encounter situations that will test your integrity, ethics, morals, work ethic, discipline, focus, and so on. Just getting up and going to work daily is a challenge, at least it was for me as an employee.

But when you are either a business owner or self employed, you are on your own now. No one is requiring you to do anything when you get up in the morning. If you don’t want to work, you don’t have to. Right away, your drive, work ethic, discipline, and focus are tested. How will you respond? Can you get yourself to work without someone telling you to? The truth is you don’t find out for sure until you do it.

Not only do you learn more about who you are, but having a business builds character. You will encounter difficult situations and experience adversity along the way that will make you stronger. You will become more persistent, stronger mentally, more disciplined, and I believe your faith and confidence should increase as well when you have success.

Reason 4: Income Potential

If I haven’t gotten your attention to this point, I should have it now. Let’s face it, as an employee you can only earn so much money. Many get paid by the hour, some get paid a yearly salary, and some may be paid based more on performance. Either way, for the most part you know what you are going to get paid each day, week, month, and year. No matter how hard you work, or how good of a job you do, you know there is a ceiling for what you can earn.

This is the beauty of having a business. Sure, when you are self-employed, it can be hard to make millions, but it is certainly possible. I know of individuals in the internet marketing business making millions per year, without much assistance. If you are a business owner, the amount of money you can make is almost up to you.

Now, when I refer to being a business owner I mean having employees and actually ‘owning a business’ that potentially be sold to another party. When you are self-employed, you don’t own a business, you are the business. (This is me right now, but I am working toward the business owner category).

You reap the fruits of your labor when you have a business. You will get back what you put in, maybe not for awhile, but in the long run you will. Making at least six figures a year with a full time business is more than achievable, it should ultimately be expected in the long run. Making millions is not out of the question at some point. I don’t know too many jobs that have unlimited income potential.

Comments are than welcome, I would love to hear thoughts on starting a business either online or offline. Thanks.

I believe that everyone should start business. I believe that anyone is capable of doing work on their own. We all have talents and skills that can be utilized to provide a product or service of some kind. Perhaps some people aren’t completely suited to be an entrepreneur, to manage, or even have the desire to do so. However, I know for a fact that everyone has a passion and skills that are designed to carryout those passions.

If you can identify your passion, skills, and a product or service you could provide in that niche, you have the potential for a business regardless of whether it is an online or offline business.

Even if each person had a small scale business on the side without any employees, even while still being employed, each person would learn a great deal about themselves, the economy, business, finance, life, and gain greater perspective on being an owner/entrepreneur. In part one of this series, I outline several advantages having a business.

Reason #1: Freedom

Do you know anyone who doesn’t value freedom? Who doesn’t want the chance to wake up each day and do whatever they want? Who doesn’t want to set their own work schedule? Who enjoys constantly being told what to do and how to do it? Sure, you do have to serve customers and cater to their wants and needs to an extent, but how you handle it is completely up to you. You are in the drivers seat when you have a business.

No one is telling you when to work, when to stop working, when and where to take a lunch break, when you can take a vacation, or how to do your work. When you have a business, you have much more freedom that you could ever dream of as an employee.

Reason #2: Controlling Your Own Destiny

One of the most concerning issues I have with being an employee is not being able to control my own destiny. I don’t know how everyone else feels, but I don’t like the idea of always having to rely on someone else for a job. Having a business allows me to be in charge of my own future. I don’t ever have to worry about being fired, laid off, or rely on someone to get me a better job through networking.

I was an assistant basketball coach for two years. I enjoyed it very much. I loved the other coaches I worked with and the freedom the head gave me and the other assistants to do their job. However, if anyone is familiar with the business of sports management or coaching, they know that what job you get and where depends on primarily on networking, who you know and who knows you.

You could be the smartest basketball person in America, but if don’t have the right connections, you will be stuck at a small job paying little money.

Maybe your profession is like this as well. Regardless, I do not enjoy networking. I am very introverted and love working, but I am not very good at establishing and maintaining relationships. This put me at a great disadvantage in that business, which is one the reasons why I am not longer in it. I was putting my energy and effort into a profession that wasn’t likely to get me where I wanted to go.

This is why I love having a business. I am in complete control, if I fail or succeed it’s because of me and no one else.

Sports teach a lot of lessons about life. I was watching Super Bowl winning quarterback Drew Brees’ press conference after the game last night. He expressed a number of thoughts on why he believes the Saints were able to win the Super Bowl. One of the primary characteristics common among successful people in life is the ability to persevere, to overcome adversity. Without it, you have no chance of accomplishing anything of significance.

Here are a few quotes from Drew Brees about adversity:

“Just to think of the road that we’ve all traveled to get to this–there was so much we had to go through–and how much adversity we faced along the way.”

“Going through hard times is what gives you the opportunity to accomplish something special.”

This latter quote really stood out to me. Now, I have always believed that the bigger your dreams and goals are in life, the greater the struggle. Why? In order to accomplish lofty goals, such as winning the Super Bowl, it requires being better than just about everyone else. This means having a great deal of wisdom and strength, and that is what going through adversity will do for you. Without wisdom and strength, we are ignorant and weak. Not exactly a formula for success.

Sometimes while experiencing adversity we don’t understand why, but it’s important to see the big picture – that it’s preparing us for something great. Therefore, embrace the struggle, be thankful for it. More than likely, it means you are on your way to doing something special.

The Saints have been a team all year that have had to come back to win games. So what significance did that have on their win last night? Well, if you watched the game, you know that they were down 10-0 after the first quarter, and came back to outscore the Colts 31-7 the rest of the game to win.

Now, if any team has its way, they want to blow every team out that they play. Having to come back and win games from behind is challenging and stressful—regardless of what sport or level you are playing at. However, if the Saints had won all their games this year easily, they wouldn’t probably have responded the way they did when they were down 10-0.

“We’ve had plenty of games this year when we’ve gone down at some point in the game–early, fourth quarter, whatever it might be. We just continued to believe in ourselves and found a way to win” – Drew Brees

I have talked before about the importance of faith in yourself and where you are going in life in order to be successful.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we all have to be trained before we can accomplish anything great in life. The Saints all year were being trained for the Super Bowl by having to comeback a number of times to win. This is why they didn’t panic when they were down early. They had been there before, they were ready for it, and believed they could win. This exemplifies the importance of faith, and it can only be developed over time and by overcoming adversity.

The lesson in this instance is this: Not everything is going to be ideal when you are traveling down the path toward success. Sometimes, you are going to fall behind and have to make some comebacks, like the Saints did. You are not going to blow everyone out. But there is a reason for it, and it could be preparing you for the greatest moment of your life-just like it did for the Saints.

If you currently use WordPress to build your blogs, or are just beginning the process, finding a quality theme can sometimes be a challenge. Creating a blog with visual appeal can attract visitors back to your blog continuously. A website or blog with design and graphics that are very outdated can have a negative effect on the amount of repeat visitors. The following are some places to find quality themes for free, some that will cost you, and software that will allow you to create your own.

First, if you have a tight budget and have no interest in designing yourself, your are in luck. You can find quality themes that are free all over the internet in just about any niche if you search long enough. I used free themes when I first started creating blogs. One site I recommend checking out is www.wpthemesfree.com. They have a long list of categories to search through and some are very well designed.

If have a budget to work with and want some customization with your blogs, you won’t find a shortage of these either. Elegant themes produce professional, high quality themes that will make your blogs really stand out. They provide excellent service, and for $19.95 a month you will have access to all their themes. Plus, they are constantly adding new themes and upgrades. This is a great place for beginners to start.

If you are the type that enjoys designing and creating, why not create your own WordPress themes? This is what I currently do. I love to build and create, and I am the artistic type. I also enjoy being able to customize themes exactly the way I want them. While there are a great deal of high quality themes available, I still have trouble finding exactly what I want at times.

Artisteer is a program that I have been using for over a year now, and have used it exclusively for building themes. I have not come across a theme builder that is better. The following are some of the themes I have created recently with Artisteer:

indoorcyclingbike.com

upperleftbackpain.com

beerbrewhome.com

cookingutensilset.com

What I enjoy most about Artisteer is that it is very easy to use. It isn’t like some of the more advanced site builders like Dreamweaver for instance. This is designed specifically for beginners. It allows you to customize as much as you want to and the learning curve for me was only about 30 minutes to an hour to learn. Also, you can try out it for free before buying it.

These are just a few options you can consider for finding WordPress themes. There are plenty more out there, but I would ultimately encourage either creating your own themes or buying them at some point. The reason is because of the customization aspect. With free themes, you cannot change them at all. But they work just fine if you are just starting out.

If you have any other recommendations, please leave them in the comment section below.

Building websites back in the day used to be a rather daunting challenge that was only reserved for those who knew html code. I know some who used notepad and hand coded the entire HTML when building sites. Now, tons of HTML editors are available that do all the coding for you, requiring very little knowledge to work with one. XSitePro, for instance, installs sites with just a few clicks.

While building HTML sites is all well and good, and they are easier now more than ever to build, the best sites to build these days are blogs. You can have a blog up in a matter of minutes without knowing a thing about web design. This is one of the primary reasons why you see blogs all over the internet instead of HTML sites.

While there are a bunch of open source blog platforms online, WordPress is the best and most often used. WordPress is a free publishing platform that you can use to build blogs. I have used it since day one, and have yet to use anything else. To install a blog on my Hostgator account using Fantastico deluxe, I only have to complete a few simple steps to have it up and running.

In addition to a fast and easy setup format, WordPress also has some built in SEO (search engine optimization) advantages of HTML. Blogs are dynamic, constantly being updated, while HTML sites are static and usually not updated with content often.

The search engines love constantly updated sites, and all you need to do to publish content with a blog is to click on “add new post” in the dashboard and type in your post. You can also “tag” posts. This means attaching words or phrases to a post that describe what the post is about. This provides the search engines and visitors with a better idea of what you are writing about.

WordPress also allows you to add plugins to your blog which adds more functionality. For instance, the All-in-One SEO plugin when installed automatically optimizes your blog for the search engines. You can use plugins to provide visitors with the opportunity to social bookmark your content and so on.

What is great about WordPress, as opposed to other blogs such as blogger, is the ability to customize it as much as you want. If you know PHP and HTML code, you can edit to change the look of the blog just about any way you like. Blogger blogs, for instance, don’t provide the editing options.

If you are looking to start building your own virtual real estate of websites, I recommend using WordPress to do so, especially if you are just starting off. Perhaps you just want to start blogging, writing about certain topics in a niche that you have a great deal of knowledge in.

Either way, you won’t have to worry about HTML code and optimizing websites the right way initially. You can start putting up sites quickly and adding content almost immediately. Here is a tutorial on how to use WordPress.

I strongly recommend signing up with Hostgator if you need a host. Almost everyone I know uses them; I have been with them now for a year and have never had one problem.

In my next post, I will discuss what themes are and the best places to find them, or what to use to build them yourself.

I do not profess to be an expert by any means when it comes to the real estate industry. I do not know all the intricacies of the business, but what I do understand is the concept. The concept of flipping houses is one that has intrigued me over the years. The idea that you can purchase a home, fix it up, and sell it for a profit has been big business over the years and has made some individuals very wealthy. Believe it or not, the internet has its own real estate industry commonly referred to as “virtual real estate.”

What is virtual real estate? In the internet marketing world, virtual real estate refers to content websites monetized to create long term passive without having to devote significant time toward maintenance. I have discussed niche content marketing recently. The idea here is to build an empire of virtual real estate, consisting of anywhere from dozens of websites or more, providing you with a diverse and large amount of income.

Look at it this way. If I have 20 websites earning $300 a month, that equals $6,000 a month in revenue. The cost of maintenance is insignificant, assuming I don’t pay to get traffic. Imagine then if I owned 50 websites bring it $300 a month? The potential is limitless.

You can see the connection between offline real estate and virtual real estate. A home or property in general can be considered an asset. You could fix up a home buy hiring help or doing it yourself, increase the value, and then flip it for a profit. Or, you could keep it and rent it out to others creating residual income.

Virtual real estate operates conceptually in a similar fashion. You own a website that is monetized and either has the potential to earn money, or may already have, and it’s considered real estate. Even if it hasn’t earned a cent, it has the potential to do so. As a result, this website is an asset. It’s yours, you own it outright, there are no payments being made on it (other than hosting each month). You can flip this website as you would a home, or hold on to it and attempt to earn money regularly.

If a website is earning money, its value increases quite considerably. How much depends on the niche, the market for buying and selling websites, and how much it’s earning. The general rule of thumb is that a website earning money is worth anywhere from 6-12 times monthly earnings.

This is why building a virtual real estate empire is one of the best ways of creating wealth on the internet. You can build sites to earn money each month, or perhaps “flip” them after awhile for hundreds of dollars or more.

Why I enjoy the idea of virtual real estate more than flipping homes, for example, is the amount of initial investment in websites is diminutive compared to a home. I only have to invest $10 in a domain and some hosting. If I plan to buy I house, it’s could cost in the six figure range, depending on what is purchased. If that house doesn’t sell after fixing it up, I could be stuck with it. If I am not able to earn money from or sell a website, I am out no more than $30. Plus, there is much less work and time that has to go into virtual real estate.
